Web Commerce Group and JBoss Group Partner to Bring Wireless Internet Software Component to the J2EE Application Server Market
Raleigh, NC - October 16, 2002 - Web Commerce Group (www.wc-group.com), a
provider of wireless and wired Internet software components, announced today a
partnership with JBoss Group LLC, the services company regrouping the lead
developers of JBoss, the number one Open Source, J2EE-based application server.
Under the partnership, Arkdom PLUS Enterprise Edition, a J2EE wireless Internet
software component, will support the JBoss Application Server. A 90-day
evaluation copy of Arkdom PLUS Enterprise Edition 1.3.0 is available for download
on www.jboss.org/services/partners/software.jsp.
Along with the advent of the wireless Internet has emerged a unique set of
challenges for the Web developer. Not only does the developer have a much
smaller screen on which to present his content, the devices that his audience
may use to view the content are increasingly varied. According to the Gartner
Group, "By 2004, companies will have to support a minimum of 50 different mobile
device profiles and 10 different wireless network interfaces at once." Because
it is impractical to design multiple versions of a Web application geared toward
the vast array of devices, many wireless Web developers are tempted to employ
the lowest common denominator (LCD) design. While the LCD design theoretically
ensures that the pages will be viewable on all devices, developers often lack a
clear definition of the LCD. What's worse, even a well-implemented LCD design
forces all its visitors, particularly those with devices having higher capabilities,
to interface with the same crude pages as users of the least capable devices.
This LCD approach disregards a fundamental principle of software design, user-friendliness.
Arkdom PLUS Enterprise Edition is a patent-pending software component that solves
this set of challenges by its unique, patent-pending technology. Web Commerce
Group is an active participant of Java Specification Requests 188
(www.jcp.org/jsr/detail/188.jsp) whose goal is to enable interoperability between
Web servers and access mechanisms, and to facilitate development of device
independent Web applications. By investing in Arkdom PLUS Enterprise Edition
now, the developers can start designing device independent Web applications
while protecting their investment because Arkdom PLUS Enterprise Edition will
be supporting JSR 188 as soon as it becomes finalized.
"Web Commerce Group solves the challenge of designing device independent wireless
Web applications in an innovative way for the developers who are using JBoss
application server," said Marc Fleury, Founder and President of JBoss Group LLC.
"Our decision to support JBoss with our product was a no-brainer. It is one of
the best J2EE application servers in the market from a technical standpoint, and
has the largest number of developers for J2EE enterprise application development,"
said Roger Moon, President & CEO of Web Commerce Group.
